The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. We offer programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers and others in higher education, providing financial support to over 55,000 individuals per year. We also represent the German higher education system abroad, promote Germany as an academic and research destination, and help build ties between institutions around the world.

DAAD New York

The New York office of the DAAD was founded in 1971 to support academic exchange between the US, Canada and Germany. We are one of 14 international branch offices. DAAD New York has three major missions:

  • To act as a bridge between US, Canadian and German universities, higher education professionals and students by providing information and assistance.
  • To administer fellowships and other programs for students and scholars in the US and Canada.
  • To contribute to Germany’s public diplomacy by promoting Germany’s academic, scientific, and cultural achievements in the US and Canada.
For up-to-date information on DAAD programs, higher education in Germany, and relevant academic and cultural events, we offer a weekly electronic newsletter.
DAAD Information Centers
DAAD has two information centers dedicated to serving the needs of students and faculty on the west coast of the United States and in Canada. They promote study and research in Germany, advise local students on funding opportunities, and build ties between German and US or Canadian universities.
